A new groom has taken center stage in It Shoulda Been You. A spokesperson confirmed that Aaron C. Finley has stepped in for David Burtka as Brian Howard. Burtka, who is on medical leave, will not be returning to the David Hyde Pierce-helmed show, which has had a short-lived romance with Broadway and will shutter prematurely on August 9.
Finley has previously appeared on the Great White Way in Rock of Ages. Other stage credits include Allegiance, Diner the Musical, Rent and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Featuring music by Barbra Anselmi and a book and lyrics by Brian Hargrove, It Shoulda Been You follows a Jewish bride as she readies to marry her Catholic boyfriend. When the bride’s ex-boyfriend shows up, the perfect wedding starts to unravel, leaving the sister of the bride to turn a tangled mess into happily ever after.
The comedy's cast also includes Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, Broadway.com Vlogger Sierra Boggess, Lisa Howard, Edward Hibbert, Montego Glover, Chip Zien, Anne L. Nathan, Josh Grisetti, Michael X. Martin, Nick Spangler, Farah Alvin, Gina Farrell and Mitch Greenberg.
It Shoulda Been You began performances on March 17 and officially opened on April 14 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. At the time of closing, the new tuner, which received no 2015 Tony nominations, will have played 31 previews and 135 regular performances.
